The Iganga Campsite is one of Selective Services Limited's most significant ongoing engagements. As subcontractor to Yapi Merkezi — the main contractor on the Malaba–Kampala Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) — SSL is responsible for the full construction and finishing of a purpose-built workforce campsite in Iganga, Eastern Uganda.
The campsite serves as the operational base for the SGR project workforce in this corridor, providing accommodation and support facilities across seven distinct buildings. SSL's scope spans both structural civil works and complete interior finishing works, making this one of the most comprehensive building projects in the company's portfolio.
Project Overview
The Iganga Campsite comprises 11 building structures — three two-storey dormitory blocks for Foremen, Engineers, and Workers, plus an Office Building, Dining Hall, Infirmary, Laundry, two QC Laboratories, and two Warehouses. Nine of the eleven structures are Light Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) buildings; the two warehouses are conventional steel-framed structures with interlocking paver block flooring.
SSL manages the full project lifecycle on site, including civil works, masonry, plastering, gypsum drylining, painting, tiling, and all associated MEP finishing coordination with Yapi Merkezi's technical teams. The project also operates under a strict Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) framework in accordance with Yapi Merkezi's site requirements.

Scope of Works
- Full civil and structural construction works across 11 building structures
- Masonry and blockwork to all internal and external walls
- Plastering and render — internal and external wall finishes
- Gypsum board drylining and ceiling systems throughout residential blocks
- Ceramic and porcelain tiling to bathrooms, kitchens, and common areas
- Painting and decorative finishes — all buildings, all floors
- Concrete floor screeds and floor finishing works for LGSF structures
- Interlocking paver block flooring to both steel warehouse structures
- Steel warehouse erection and installation — large and small warehouse
- QC laboratory fit-out — lab at batching plant and lab near small warehouse
- Window and door frame installation and fitting
- Drainage, sanitary, and plumbing rough-ins and connections
- External works including site drainage, pavements, and compound surfaces
- Ongoing works under active QC inspection and sign-off per room and per floor
HSE & Site Management
The Iganga Campsite operates under SSL's Health, Safety and Environmental management framework, aligned with the requirements of Yapi Merkezi's project HSE plan and Uganda's Occupational Safety and Health Act 2006. SSL maintains a dedicated HSE and site management presence on the campsite at all times.
Vendor access control, toolbox talks, PPE compliance, and daily site inspections are conducted as part of the regular site management routine. SSL coordinates directly with Yapi Merkezi's Environmental and Social team on matters including community liaison, worker welfare, and environmental compliance.
